Halloween Games
The second quarter started off with Halloween games! The kindergarten and first graders incorporated locomotor skills in the creative expression of Halloween movements. They pretended to be a variety of Halloween costumes and moved accordingly. It was fun to observe their ideas of how a mummy walks, cowboy gallops, and bat flies! The second and third graders explored the effort concepts of fast, slow, hard, and soft. They learned the best way to throw a ball in order to knock a pumpkin (small ball) off of a vine (cone). Each team was determined to be the first to have "Five Little Pumpkins Roll Out Of Sight." Meanwhile, the fourth and fifth graders studied how important it is to practice concepts, when learning new skills. They practiced keeping their heads up and using their fingers, instead of their palms, while building their basketball dribbling skills. The game "Ball Monster" allowed them to dribble against two fellow classmates to see who could acquire the most basketballs in their caves. It was "scary" to watch the students keep control of the basketballs and dribble quickly, in order to beat the monsters! All in all, these games were an exciting way to include the holiday spirit in physical education class!

P.E. Schedule
Let's Celebrate A New School Year!
Welcome to Mrs. Brauch's physical education class! The 2009-2010 school year is sure to be a fun and exciting one, especially in p.e.! The sports and games that we will play will help the children learn stretching, strengthening, and physical activity skills. Running, balancing, twisting, jumping, and kicking are just a few of the concepts the children will work to develop. This will help them to build their locomotor and nonlocomotor skills, in order to encourage the pursuit of lifetime activity. The students will grasp why physical fitness is an important component in keeping our bodies healthy and strong! The letter I sent home talked more in depth about what we will study this year. It also included an explanation of my classroom rules, consequences, and grading. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
